History:
St Theresa Mission Hospital-Kiirua is one of the Apostolic Services of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus. It was Started as an expression of God’s Merciful Love to the Little ones of the Kingdom, especially the sick in body, mind and soul in line with the Charism of the congregation. The healing and healthcare ministry was initiated by Sisters Maria Pia Santandrea and Giuliana Menghi in 1967 to provide Healthcare to the community as a service to humanity. Their efforts began with a dispensary and later a maternity wing was added. In 1978, the facility was expanded to a 70-bed capacity, with sisters from the congregation taking full care of expectant mothers. With increased public interest in the facility, the management introduced and opened up wards and health services to all members of the community from 1980 onwards with minimal growth.
In the year 2002, STMH-K became a full-fledged maternity & Cottage hospital with a capacity of 80 registered beds. In the same year, the hospital got its first Surgeon and started Theater Services.
In the year 2011; the hospital was elevated from a cottage to a Level IV health facility with 120 bed capacity.
