It began as a simple team-building exercise that grew into something far greater! Much more exciting and promising……………………………………….

STMH-K football team traces its roots back to 2023 when the HR team gathered to brainstorm on how to strengthen teamwork and build a united spirit among employees. After exploring so many ideas, one thought stuck: why not try sports? It’s something that would get everyone engaged, active, and working together outside their usual roles. And that is how; the hospital’s sports initiative was born. Some employees were picked randomly (though not very random because there was a consideration of their passion as for their skills) to form a sports committee and take charge of organizing the first team-building sports event. They started with dividing the hospital staff into six teams, each representing a color: blue, red, white, black, green, and yellow. Then, coming up with  games’ schedules and ideas on how to make all employees participate. With football and volleyball as the main games, both men’s and women’s teams competed fiercely, building not only a competitive spirit but a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Throughout last year, these teams met regularly in the evenings for practice sessions, creating bonds that extended beyond work hours. Points were awarded based on performance in both volleyball and football, which fueled the friendly rivalry. The season culminated in a grand finale this year February, where the energy was electric. The day was filled with all sorts of fun sporting activities; volleyball, football, relays, short races, sack races, egg-and-spoon races…… you name it! The best three teams were awarded handsomely, making it a memorable and joyous event that set a strong foundation for future sports at the hospital and that marked the end of Season one.
But here’s is the beauty of that season, employees participated wholeheartedly, if you were not cheering, you were playing or doing both, we were all looking for ways to contribute to our particular teams. The banter! The laughter! The smiles! And the bonds formed in that season were glorious and they reign.

In no time, preparations for season two started by forming a new sports committee this time with fresh ideas to take things further. Having learnt from the pioneer committee, sports committee season two, decided to mix up the previously formed teams, grouping employees from different departments to create one big, unified team that would represent the hospital in matches against local teams. As well as continue fostering team spirit among employees.

Now, our football/sports team meets regularly for practice after work hours, and as of now they’ve already played against 6 local teams with plans to play more in the near future. What’s even more exciting is that these games aren’t just about winning; they have become a way for us to bond; they’re a way for us to reach out to the community. It’s the perfect the opportunity to spread health awareness and encourage better health-seeking behaviors in the community.

Our hospital’s sports journey is still young, but the impact has been powerful. From building teamwork to spreading health awareness, STMH-Football/sports team has become more than just a sports team ….it’s a symbol of unity, a force for good, and a joyful way to connect with each other. With more matches, new tournaments, the support of the entire community, we’re excited to see where this journey takes us next. Cheers! To many more games, stronger team spirit, and a healthier, happier community!

The team is still young and it has so much potential, therefore it requires a good support system to keep it going. Would you wish to support the sports team? Do not hesitate to contact us to find out how you can do so………….
