Little Sisters of St Therese of the Child Jesus Congregation(LSSTCJ)  is an international religious congregation dedicated to the apostolic life with perpetual vows under the protection of our lady of Mount Carmel. The congregation was established in Imola (Bologna- Italy) on 2nd November 1923 and approved by the Holy See on 16th December 1949. STMH-K was initiated by the LSSTCJ to provide healthcare to the community as a service to humanity.

St Theresa Mission Hospital- Kiirua is under the leadership of Little Sisters of St Therese of The Child Jesus  Congregation. We are guided by the Charism, Spirituality and Values of the LSSTCJ. Therefore, as a hospital we are mandated to carry out some of the congregation’s apostolate of being witnesses of God’s Merciful Love by providing Quality, Responsive and Holistic Healthcare to our community.

The Charism of the congregation:

It was started by Mother Maria Zanelli and Fr. Giuseppe Mazzanti. They took abandoned and needy children into their religoius houses and loved them with simple and active tenderness and helped them holistically. Their service designated clearly the Charism of the congregation i.e. witnesing the Merciful Love of God towards the least of our brothers and sisters , the poor and the destitute, the sick suffering in body and soul. This Charism inspired by the spirituality of  St Therese of the Child Jesus; Love for Christ and For the Church in all simplicity and unlimited trust in the merciful Love of God.  What began with small acts of the Merciful Love has grown beyond continents  as the congrgation continues to spread in the world.  Today the Little Sisters of St Therese of the Child Jesus are present in Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Switerland, Kenya and Tanzania.  In Africa, the congregation founded the following:
